Doris Margaret Wigand, age 95, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at The Ridgeview LeSueur Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 9 am to Noon on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Henderson. Funeral services will follow at Noon with Pastor Deb Meyer officiating. Interment will be at the Brown Cemetery in Henderson.
Doris was born November 10, 1925 in Blakeley Township, Scott County, MN to Paul and Adina (Malz) Brandt. She was baptized on November 29, 1925 and confirmed on April 2, 1939 at St. Paul’s Church. She attended Henderson Public School and graduated June of 1943. She graduated from Mankato Teachers College in August of 1944 and taught in Adrian and Winnebago. On June 15, 1947, she married Sylvester Wigand at St. Paul’s UCC. They farmed on the family farm where they raised their four children. Doris remained active in the church choir, Sunday School and Women’s Guild. She returned to college to earn her 4 year degree from Mankato State College and taught in the elementary school in Henderson for 28 years, retiring in 1991, then continuing on as a substitute teacher and volunteer for many years. After the death of her husband in 1994, volunteering became a way of life for her. Her volunteer activities included being Sibley County representative on Region Nine Agency for the Aging, Sibley County DAC Board, Community Education Advisory Council, Sibley County Food Share, Sibley County Historical Society, Henderson Public Library Board and Friends of the Library, LeSueur Hospital Auxiliary, Hospice of LeSueur, the LSH Continuing Education Committee, Henderson Bloodmobile, and Ladies Tourist Club, GFWC. In 2014, Doris moved to Sibley Estates in Henderson and since 2017 she has resided at Oak Terrace of LeSueur.
Doris is survived by daughter, Lois (Lance) Twedt of Inver Grove Heights, daughter LaDonna (Tom) Bender of Henderson, son, Larry (Stephanie) Wigand of Henderson and son in law, Eric Penn of St. James, MN, and by grandchildren Chad Penn, Carlie (Brian) Olson, Cory (Hannah) Penn, Lucas (Allie) Twedt, Logan (Molly) Twedt, Shayne (Allison) Bender, Lynnea (Cody) Wetzel, Taryn (Erik) Rice, Sydnie (Jared) Graff, Connor (Nicole) Wigand, Chance (special friend, Paige Lachelt) Wigand and Sierra Wigand. She is also survived by great grandchildren Tanner, Cooper and Sawyer Olson, Kayla and Khloe Penn, Carson Laumeyer, Cole and Caitlyn Twedt, Ethan Twedt, Ava, Jaxson and Shay Wetzel, Danielle Rice, Emersyn and Asher Graff, sister Adella (Ewald) Gruetzmacher and sister in law, Beverly Brandt plus many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester, daughter Laurel Penn, parents Paul and Adina Brandt, brothers Norris and Donald Brandt and sister in law, Doris Brandt.
Anyone who knew Doris knew how much she loved angels, and she will now live on as guardian angel of all who loved her.
