Dr. Eugene Thomas “E.T.” O’Brien, age 90 of Belle Plaine, passed away on November 12, 2020 at St. Gertrude’s Nursing Home in Shakopee. Graveside service will be at 11a.m. on Tuesday, November 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Family will gather at the Kolden Funeral Home at 9:30am prior to the procession to the cemetery. A Memorial Mass will take place at a later time.
Eugene was born in New Prague on January 14, 1930 to Eugene and Grace (Weldon) O’Brien. He grew up in Belle Plaine and attended Belle Plaine High School, the University of St. Thomas and the University of Minnesota Dental School. He proudly served his country as a Captain in the Air Force. On June 27, 1959 he married Mary Baker at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake. They made their home in Belle Plaine where Eugene practiced dentistry. He was a devout member of Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and American Dental Association. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Brendan O’Brien, and wife Mary (Baker) O’Brien in 2006.
Dr. O’Brien is survived by his sons, Dr. Patrick (Katharine) O’Brien of Bloomington and Eugene O’Brien III of Hopkins.
