ELDEN SCHWARZ Obituary

Elden G. Schwarz, age 89 of Le Sueur, died on January 21, 2021.  He was born on March 7th, 1931 in Sharon Township to Clarence and Edna (Sohm) Schwarz.  Elden was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur.  Elden attended school in District 77, Sharon Township and graduated from Le Sueur High School in 1949.  He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954.  He married Frances Ruth Pinney on November 27th, 1954.

Elden farmed east of Le Sueur his whole life.  He was proud to have harvested the crops as recently as 2019.  He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Le Sueur where he served in multiple roles including helping to build the church in 1957.   His faith extended to others as he was instrumental in several ecumenical efforts in Le Sueur.   He was a sales representative for Archer Oil.  Elden served on the boards at the Le Sueur hospital and Le Sueur Farmers Elevator.  He was active in leadership in Farm Bureau and 4-H for many years.  He loved his wife of 63 years.  He filled family gatherings with laughter and love.  He was at ease making friends in almost any social setting.  Elden loved fishing with family and friends whether they caught fish or not.

Survivors include children:  Carol (Rob) Metz of Lakeville, Janet (Benny) Menton of Dassel, Peggy (Todd) Sullivan of St. Thomas, and Greg (Joan) Schwarz of Le Sueur; ten grandchildren, Andy (Buse) Metz, Brady (fiancée Kara Laird), Cody (Jessica) Metz, Tyler (Megan) Menton, Danny (Kelly) Menton, Mandy (Taylor) Sommerfeld, Molly (Tom) Greenheck, Joe Sullivan, Tom and Allison Schwarz; and three great-grandsons, Everett and Samuel Menton and Caleb Sommerfeld.  He is also survived by sister, Lorraine (Roger) Just, brother, Neil (Cletis) Schwarz, sisters-in-law, Sharon PInney and Charlotte Schwarz.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, brother, Eugene “Jake” Schwarz, sisters and brothers-in-law, Gerald (Vivian) Pinney, Bill Pinney, Mary (Paul) Braun.

Visitation will be held at Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur on Friday, January 29, 2021, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. and again on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 10:00 – 11: 00 A.M. at the funeral home.    A private family service will be held at 11:30 A.M.  at the United Methodist Church.  Services will be live-streamed on the LeSueur United Methodist Church Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to:  The United Methodist Church of Le Sueur or Ridgeview Nursing Home of Le Sueur.
