Elmer Soeffker Obituary

Elmer C. Soeffker, age 96 of Arlington passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at Oak Terrace Health Care Center of Gaylord. Due to Covid-19 concerns, a memorial service by invitation is scheduled to take place soon. Mr. Soeffker’s ashes will be interred in the Arlington Public Cemetery. The family regrets the opportunity to accept in person condolences but wishes for you to remember them in your thoughts and prayers. Elmer Carl Soeffker was born on the family farm in Arlington Township on July 6, 1924, the son of William and Anna (Gruenhagen) Soeffker. Elmer was baptized on July 20, 1924 and confirmed on April 10, 1938, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. On June 28, 1952 Elmer married Lucille Pomplun at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord. To this union were born two children, Diane and William. Elmer was a lifelong resident and farmer in Arlington Township, moving into town in 1995.  Elmer and Lucille traveled together on farming tours throughout the U.S. as well as to other parts of the world including Canada, Australia, South America and Germany to name a few. They also did camping and fishing together. Elmer was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, holding different offices and committee assignments including the Counting Committee.

Elmer is survived by his children, Diane Soeffker of Rochester and Bill (Peggy) Soeffker of rural Arlington; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlene Soeffker Moskop of Arlington, Erwin (Marion) Pomplun and Elsie Gerholz of Gaylord, numerous nieces and nephews. Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucille and siblings Ruby, Marie and Roy.
