Jo Kruger, age 64 of Belle Plaine, passed away peacefully at her home on April 21, 2020. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date due to health restrictions by the Department of Health.
Jo Marie Helander was born in Wadena, MN on October 16, 1955, to Vernal and Louise (Lattman) Helander. Jo grew up in Henning, MN and spent her summers on Otter Tail Lake. Jo is a graduate of the Henning High School and is also a graduate of the Wadena Technical College in Wadena, MN.
On December 9, 1978 she married Randal Kruger at the Presbyterian Church in South St Paul, MN. Over the 41 years of marriage, Jo and Randy spent time in Spirit Lake, IA, Williston, ND, Carrington, ND, Hibbing, MN and the last 30 years in Belle Plaine, MN.
Jo took great pride in telling everyone that she spent the last 23 years working as a Financial Officer for M A Peterson Design Build in Edina, MN. Her early retirement was forced by the diagnoses of Glioblastoma (brain cancer) in April, 2017. It should be noted that Jo is also a 2 time breast cancer survivor. The first time when she was 27 years old, and the second when she was 47 years of age.
Jo is survived by her husband Randy, son Justin (Lisa), and her two brothers, Jon and Tim Helander. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Karen.
Jo was an avid Twins, Vikings, and Wild fan. She enjoyed all boating and water activities, which included fishing and water skiing. She also enjoyed turkey and deer hunting with her husband. Jo was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for the last 28 years.
