John Edward Balk, age 59 of Belle Plaine died suddenly in a tragic farm accident at home on September 28, 2010. Memorial visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine. John was born on August 13, 1951 in St. Peter, MN to Wilbur "Jake" and Irene Balk. John was a graduate of Belle Plaine High School and North Dakota State College of Sciences in Wahpeton. He married his high school sweetheart, Annalee Fogarty, on December 2, 1972 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. John was an adoring husband, loving father and grandfather. He knew what it was to be a good man; he worked hard, played hard, he loved his family, friends and land. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur "Jake" and Irene Balk, and his son, Matthew John. He is survived by his wife of thirty eight years, Annalee Fogarty Balk; Children, Faye (Ben) Foote of St. Paul, Alexia Poppy of Chaska, Jake (Heather) Balk of Belle Plaine and Jessica (Michael) Taube of Maplewood; Grandchildren, Liam Eliot & Mateo John Foote, Nevin John Poppy, Bennet John Balk, Charlie Leo Thomas and Alice Anna Louise Taube; Siblings, Marcia (Al) Inde of Arizona City Arizona, Elaine Balk of Burnsville, Betty (Chris) Weldon of Belle Plaine, Bill (Barb) Balk of Mora and many nieces and nephews. John is loved and missed by all.
