Karen R. Mueller

Karen R. Mueller, age 88 of Waconia, formerly of Le Sueur, died at Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.  Memorial services will be on Friday, September 15, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur, MN.  Visitation will be at the funeral home that morning from 10:00 a.m. ~ 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be at a later time in Mound Cemetery, Le Sueur, MN.

Karen was born on August 23, 1935 to John “Bud” and Vera (Tallman) Boortz in Cameron, WI.  She grew up in Cameron, WI and graduated from Cameron High School.  She then attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire with a teaching degree.  She married Paul Mueller on May 27, 1960 in Wausau, WI.  Paul’s career with Green Giant brought them to Le Sueur, MN in the early 60’s and Karen began a long career teaching at Park Elementary School from 1968 ~ 1997.  She remained in Le Sueur until 2014 and moved to Waconia to be closer to her children. 

Karen enjoyed golfing, gardening, time at the lake cottage and her volunteer work at Treasures in Town which she and others helped start.  She was in the Le Sueur Lions and was a Grand Marshall for Le Sueur Giant Days Celebration. 

She is survived by her son, Mark (Kara) Mueller of Victoria and daughter, Lisa Mueller of Waconia, MN.  Grandson, Zachary.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul in 1999; brother, John Boortz and sister, Barbara Frafjord.
