Lisa Rogers Obituary

Lisa Ann Rogers, age 51 of Belle Plaine, Minnesota, passed away on August 22nd, 2021 after a courageous four-year battle with ALS.

Lisa was born in Minneapolis on September 27th, 1969 to Richard and Connie (Hansen) Rogers.  She grew up as a child in the military and lived in a number of places, the longest being in Germany and Minnesota.

She worked in the transportation and hospitality businesses over the years-including tour bus, school bus, dump truck, hotels, and even a year in Germany at a military resort.

Lisa enjoyed her years spent with her wife Kathy and family in Arizona and talked about it often; she never failed to mention the Mexican food was so much better there than Minnesota! She was always an avid dog-lover, and took great care of her beloved fur friends like they were her children. Aside from recent political issues in the NFL she found off-putting, Lisa had been a long-time Vikings fan and loved watching the games; one of her favorite things to do was to pick on her friends and family who were Green Bay Packer fans! Lisa’s love of country music was known to us all; she and her best friend (and family to us) Yvette went to see Garth Brooks in 2019-this is a major example of how Lisa, in the midst of her struggle with ALS, endeavored to live her life fully. Lisa could be a Jill-of-all-trades when it came to hobbies and activities. She explored recipes in the kitchen, created woodworking projects, made Christmas décor…quite a list of accomplishments, really! She had a very creative mind and was plenty talented; she put a ton of love into her work. Many of us have reminders of that love in the gifts she has given us over the years.

She is preceded in death by her beloved wife, Kathy Newberry in 2013, and father Richard Rogers in 2019. Also preceding her in death are her grandparents: Ralph and Marion Rogers and Roy and Lorraine Hansen; aunts: Alice, Ramona, Charlene, and Judy; uncles: Frank and Reuben.

Lisa is survived by her mother Connie Rogers, brother Lorne (Kari) Rogers, daughter Brianna (Nick) Wilkinson; aunts and uncles: Pat and Jim, Ellen and Jerry, and Bev and John; nieces: Katelynn and Marina; nephew Tyler; cousins: Renee, Rebecca, Greg, Karen, Beth, Kim, Kelli, Mike, Brenda, and Ryan; and dearest friend Yvette (Robert) Rutt. Lisa also has two granddaughters Savanna and Shyann Wilkinson who she enjoyed spoiling and snuggling with in the recliner, and considered the lights of her life.

According to Lisa’s wishes, a small private service will be held on September 27th, 2021 at 11:00 am with family in Belle Plaine, MN; her ashes will be buried alongside Kathy’s at their joined plot. It was Lisa’s intention that this be a small and informal gathering; that her memory be honored by all through living every day to the fullest in the time that we are each given.

In lieu of memorial or condolence gifts, the family would prefer donations to the ALS Foundation, who has played a huge role in helping Lisa and family through her enormous challenges.
