He is survived by wife Kathie, daughter Christina (Richard), son Keith (Angela), grandchildren Justin (Priyanka) More, Ava & Elias Aune. Sisters Kathy (Lanny) Cox, Lee (Wayne) Bungert, Becky (D. He was very involved in his community as a Scoutmaster, Lions Club member and an EMT with the Le Sueur Ambulance crew.
In 2009, Mark received his long awaited liver transplant. In honor of his 18-year-old donor and Mark’s passion for education, he attended Minnesota State University – Mankato in pursuit of a teaching degree. He also volunteered with Reading Corp of America to help Park Elementary students. Mark touched many people with his love of playing guitar, writing music, poetry, and stories. His sense of humor and storytelling ability will be missed greatly.
Mark was also active in teaching about the invaluable gift of organ donation on behalf of LifeSource. In keeping with the spirit of his love for education and learning, Mark wanted to donate his body to the University of Minnesota Medical School Anatomy Bequest Program; however due to pneumonia the program was unable to accept his gift.
In lieu of gifts, the family is requesting that you donate to www.life-source.org/giving/make-a-gift/ in Mark Aune’s name. The family also encourages others to give the gift of life by checking the organ donor box on their driver’s license.
Mark’s last words: “Why does the Norwegian Navy put barcodes on their ships? So when they get back to port they can Scandinavian.”
