March 25, 1942 ~ December 23, 2023 (age 81) 81 Years Old
Marcie Ellen (Malquist) Allen, age 81 of Le Sueur, MN, passed away of leukemia at home on December 23rd, 2023. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4th, 2024 from 4 to 7pm at Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5th, 2024, at 11am at First Lutheran Church in Le Sueur, with visitation one hour prior.
Marcie was born on March 25th, 1942, to Lew & Emma (Nicolai) Malquist in Fairfax and later baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Hector. She was raised alongside her older sister Jan Matthias. Marcie graduated from Hector High School in 1960. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in home economics along with an emphasis in related art and journalism. Marcie later obtained a degree from Mankato State in accounting. While at the University of Minnesota, she met her future husband Dana in 1963. They married on October 3rd, 1964.
Marcie spent her career in several different fields, working as a Home Extension Agent in Meeker and Faribault counties, as well as an accountant for Lieske Genetics in Henderson. Marcie volunteered at Treasures in Town, and Mount Kato Ski Patrol. She also was an active member of First Lutheran Church for 48 years, serving in various roles such as quilting group, council member and funeral coordinator.
Marcie was an avid sportswoman, enjoying golfing, water skiing, and downhill skiing, well into her mid-70s. Marcie loved playing bridge, completing puzzles, traveling, and reading. She also enjoyed interior design, for which she had an incredible gift. Marcie especially enjoyed spending time with her family at their cabin on Lake Mary. One of her greatest joys was attending most all her grandchildren’s sporting events, plays, and recitals.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Eugene Matthias of Denver, IA.
Marcie is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dana, of Le Sueur; her sons and their families, Chris (Kalynn, daughters Hannah (Ryan) and Ciara) of Le Sueur, and Erik (Susan, sons Jackson and Brooks, daughter Lillian) of Shakopee; sister, Jan Matthias of Denver, IA; brother-in-law David (Beverly) Allen of Howard Lake, and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Marcie’s family would like to thank the nurses at Andres Cancer Center and Mayo Clinic Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Animal Ark and First Lutheran Church.
