Martin G. Walsh

June 12, 1992 ~ March 13, 2020 (age 27)

Martin “Marty” Gordon Walsh, age 27, of Belle Plaine, died unexpectedly on March 13, 2020, near Jordan, MN.  Due to the ever changing circumstances and concerns with the COVID-19 Virus, services on March 17, 2020 will be immediate family only and no visitation.  There will be a public celebration at a later time…  Please feel free to reach out to the family individually.

Martin was born on June 12, 1992, in South Bend, Indiana, and adopted 3 days later by John and Rhonda (Oxborrow) Walsh of Belle Plaine, MN.  He grew up in Belle Plaine and was very active in his school and community.  Marty became an Eagle Scout. He was very active in band, playing the trumpet and trombone and broke our hearts when he played Taps at his grandma's funeral.  In his family Marty was known as "The Piano Man" because of his love of music that he shared.  Marty was in Cross Country, and especially excelled in Track and Field and took a second place finish at State.  Following high school, he traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for two years. He married Michelle Burnett (Peterson) on August 8, 2015, in Arlee, Montana.   He worked for about a year at Ames Construction.  Then at Hope Residence Marty became a Direct Support Professional and Trained Medication Aide. It is at Hope Residence where Marty found joy through serving, caring for and helping his residents. Marty was pursuing further education to become a paramedic and EMT in order to continue serving those around him.

Marty was known for his love of fishing, agate hunting, hiking, camping, and anything that involved outdoor activities. He was always there as a friend to the friendless and to serve when he saw that service was needed. He was a dutiful and loving husband and father, a devoted son, and a supportive brother.

Marty is survived by his wife, Michelle. Children, Gavin and Blake Peterson, and Maylee Walsh.  Siblings, Mitch Walsh of Belle Plaine, Mariah (Peter) Joseph of 29 Palms, CA, and Marcus Walsh of Mankato, MN.  Parents, John and Rhonda Walsh of Belle Plaine, MN; and maternal grandmother, Dora Oxborrow of Afton, MN.  Biological Family; Parents Michelle & James Carter, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gordon Oxborrow, and paternal grandparents, Martin and Frances (Cunningham) Walsh.

He is loved dearly by all those who have known him. His influence and light will be greatly missed.
