Michael G. Gau

January 29, 1969 ~ August 30, 2023 (age 54) 54 Years Old


Michael “Mike” Gerard Gau, age 54, of Belle Plaine, Minnesota passed away tragically on August 30, 2023. Visitation will be on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. ~ 8:00 p.m. Kolden Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, MN.  There will be a 7:30 p.m. Firemen's Prayer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at the funeral home.   Fireman's Tribute and Celebration will be on Saturday, September 9, 2023, 11:00 a.m. Oak Crest Elementary School, Belle Plaine, MN.  Visitation will continue at the school that morning from 10:00 a.m. ~ 11:00 a.m.  Following the celebration, there will be a formal procession past the Belle Plaine Fire Hall and lunch to follow at the Elementary School.  Full obit. to follow. 

Mike was born on January 29, 1969 in Sterns County, Saint Cloud, Minnesota to Frank and Marlene “Molly” Gau. He grew up in the Jordan/Belle Plaine areas and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1987. After high school, he briefly attended Hennepin Technical College…

He married Jennifer Pierson on June 6, 1998 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Mike worked for the Minnesota Highway Department for 14 years, was a volunteer with the Belle Plaine Fire Department for 23 years currently serving as Lieutenant 1, as well as President of the Pioneer Power Fire Hall Association.

Mike enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his Harley, Serving the BPFD, The biggest fan of the BPDT, Golfing, Lake Life, Umpire, Softball, He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, Outdoor enthusius, had a very memorable laugh and will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Jenny, children, Andrew (Nicole) LaTour, Paige Gau (Special friend, Alex Scheffler), and Dalton (Hope) Gau, six grandchildren, Payten, Logan, Gracyn & Hadley LaTour, and Cora Gau & Adam Gau-Leep, his mother, Marlene “Molly”, brother, Brian (Scooter) Gau, and parents-in-law, Sue and Steve Pierson, and brother-in-law, Matthew (Vicky) Pierson.

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Frank Gau.

Memorials prefered to Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Association or Belle Plaine Fire Dept.
