Paul was born July 26, 1937 in Greensburg, PA, to John W. and Alice (Mates) Zimmerman. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1955. He enlisted in the Air Force and trained as an Air Traffic Controller. After completing his service Paul joined the Pennsylvania State Police and was stationed in Corry, PA for two years. In 1962 he was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller, a career that he greatly enjoyed until his retirement in 1994.
In retirement Paul stayed active with his many interests. Moving to TN, he volunteered with groups for home repairs and became a Red Cross volunteer. At 9/11, Paul spent three weeks serving food to rescue workers near Ground Zero. He also developed his talents for art and produced many paintings in a variety of mediums; enjoyed wood working and carpentry; and spent many happy hours fly-fishing in the Holston River in TN.
In 2015, having lost his eyesight and in the early stages of dementia, Paul and Dorothy entered assisted living in Saint Peter, MN.
