Robert E. Moody, age 84 , formerly of Belle Plaine died on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. He was currently residing at Lougee Lake, Merrifield, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, Minnesota.
Interment, with military honors by the Belle Plaine veterans, will be in the Schlegel Cemetery, rural Belle Plaine. Visitation will be Tuesday beginning at 4:00 p.m. and concluding at 7:00 p.m. with a Veterans Prayer Service at Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church.
Robert Edward Moody was born in Belle Plaine on April 14, 1937 to Edward and Frances (Latzke) Moody. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church. Robert graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1955. He joined the U. S. Navy in the fall of 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1958. In the fall of 1959 he joined the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, as a Deputy Sheriff, under Sheriff W. B. Schroeder. On October 30, 1959 he married Lynn A. Simcox of Blakeley Township at the E & R Reformed Church in LeSueur, MN. Of this marriage they had two daughters, Lysa Lynn and Gayl Robyn.
In November of 1970 Bob was elected Scott County Sheriff and served from January 1971 to January 1979. He was then employed by the Scott County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator for 10 years. On September 3, 1976 Bob’s wife, Lynn passed away. On January 12, 1979 Bob married Joan Schmitt, formerly Joan Goetz, at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. He is survived by his wife, Joan. Children, Lysa Dols and Gayl Ediger. Step-children, Shari (Steve) Swenson, Tami (Doug) Brown and Dale (Suzanne) Schmitt. Grandchildren, Molly (Gerold) Holm, Cody Gerold and Jessy Dols. Step-grandchildren, Brooks (Angela) Swenson, Wes (Sarah) Swenson and Jacob Swenson; Jennifer (Josh) Foote, Gary (Ronda) Otto, and Jill (Brian) Lacek. Great-grandchildren, Austyn, Wayde, Cally, Cloey, Colten, Mason, Austin, Trevor, Hannah, Gus, Jack, Clare and Caylee. Brother, Roger (Les) Moody and Sister, Mary Maurelli. Nephews, Jack and Peter Moody and Nico and Armando Maurelli. Many other family and friends.
