Ralph John King, age 93 of Le Sueur, MN, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Ridgeview Le Sueur Nursing Home. Due to Covid-19, a private burial will be held on October 6, 2020 at Mound Cemetery. A gathering to honor Ralph’s life will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so.
Ralph was born one of three triplets on February 14, 1927 at Immanuel Hospital in Mankato, MN to John & Hattie (Dressel) King. He grew up in the Dresselville Township area of Le Sueur County where he spent all 93 years on the family farm. He was a tough German farmer who worked hard to make the farm a success while always finding time to help a friend. Ralph was a member of the Le Sueur United Methodist Church for over 80 years. He rang the bell, was a head usher for many years, and taught Sunday School. As a traditionalist, he always insisted on wearing a white dress shirt to church as a sign of respect. He married Carol Wanner on July 21, 1979 in Park River, ND. Carol joined with Ralph in the church and together they were very active. Ralph was a wonderful example of what it meant to live a Christian life. He read his Bible daily and lived his life according to its teachings. Ralph loved to make people smile and laugh. He was known to always have a clean joke or two to share. When not hard at work, Ralph’s favorite pastime was playing cards. He enjoyed playing many games- especially 500 and Sheephead with the “boys.” Ralph always said, “In order to have friends you need to know how to be one.” He had so many friends of all ages. It was truly amazing how many people he cared about and how many people would call Ralph their friend. Ralph will always be remembered as a kind and loving soul by all his wonderful friends and family. He will be in our hearts and prayers. He will never be forgotten.
Ralph is survived by his triplet sister, Runette Peterson of Hillsboro, ND, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Hattie L. (Dressel) King, loving wife Carol, siblings; Mary Louise Manley, Ruth Thompson, triplet infant brother Roy, and niece Patricia Thompson. A special thank you to the exceptional staff at Ridgeview Le Sueur Nursing Home and Oak Terrace Senior Living for the compassionate care given to Ralph these last several months.
