Robert D. Steen

Robert Steen, 83 of Shorewood, MN died on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN.  Memorial service will be on Tuesday,  March 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, MN.  Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be at a later date at Mound Cemetery, Ortonville, MN.  Lunch to follow the service in the church social hall.  Pastor Mark Johnson and Pastor Nathan Phillips will officiate the services.

Robert was born on May 15, 1938 in Ortonville to Ole and Mabel (Robertson) Steen.  He attended schools in Ortonville, MN and graduated from Ortonville High School.  He graduated in 1960 from Moorhead State University with a degree in Music.  He again graduated in 1967 from Moorhead State with a degree in elementary Education.  In 1989 he graduated from Hamlin University in St. Paul with an Elementary Education Degree in Orff-Schulwerk Music.

He has taught at Edmore ND, Lake Benton, MN Tyler, MN and Marshall, MN. He has taught private piano all during his teaching career.  He retired from public school teaching in June of 1995, last teaching at Eastside Elementary School in Marshall, MN.  He retired from teaching piano in 2010. 

He served as organist at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Marshall, MN from 1982-2011.  In July of 2012, Bob moved to Eagan, MN to be closer to his family.

He is survived by his brother; Douglas (Stella) Steen of Belle Plaine, brother-in-law, Morris Tietjen and sister-in-law, Thelma Steen and nieces and nephews. Special adopted son, Rami Asfour.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Glenora Tietjen and brother Jim Steen.
