Ruth Ida Schmidt

Ruth Ida Schmidt, age 84 of Belle Plaine passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at St. Francis Medical Center in Shakopee, MN.  Funeral will be on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, MN.  Visitation will be at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine on Tuesday, June 21, from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday morning.  Burial will follow the funeral at Oakwood Cemetery, Belle Plaine, MN.  Pastor Mark Johnson will officiate the services.

Ruth was born on September 8, 1937 to Walter Sr. and Marie (Ebel) Stier in Belle Plaine, MN.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, MN, graduated from Belle Plaine High School and then worked at the State Bank of Belle Plaine as a teller.  She married Maynard Schmidt on September 27, 1958 at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine.  They were happily married for almost 64 years. The couple lived and farmed Maynard’s family farm in Blakeley Township Keystone area.  Ruth enjoyed working with the livestock and day to day farming operations.  She enjoyed being a homemaker and was especially proud of her family. 

Ruth is survived by her husband Maynard; Children; Renee (Mason) Bristol of Mankato; Janet (Larry) Hanson of Belle Plaine; Allen (Suzanne) Schmidt of Novato, CA and Dale Schmidt of Belle Plaine.  Grandchildren; Laura (Sean) O’Malley, Joshua Hanson, Michael (Molly) Bristol, Melanie Schmidt, Marty Schmidt, Jesse Schmidt, Adam Schmidt, Samuel Schmidt, Levi Schmidt.  Great-Grandchildren:  Lily and Boston Bristol, Liam, Shayla and Lincoln O’Malley.  Sister-in-Law and Brother-in-Law:  Arlene and Waldo Fahrenkamp, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Martin and Frieda Schmidt; sister, Wanda Stier and brother, Willard Stier.
