Wallace H. Carlson, age 90 of Arlington, died Saturday, May 1, 2021, at his residence in Belle Plaine with his loving family by his side. A public visitation for Wallace will be held on Wednesday, May 5, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Arlington from 5-7pm. Due to Covid-19 standard restrictions, masks and 6 feet distancing, will be required. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Wallace was born on August 13, 1930, to Emil and Augusta (Pockrandt) Carlson in Kelso Twp., Sibley Co., MN. He married Doraine Schuft on May 3, 1953, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Penn Twp., Brownton, MN.
Wallace attended 8th grade, until staying home to help his father run the farm west of Arlington. When he and Doraine married, they settled there and milked cows, raised chickens, hogs, and a variety of crops. Wallace was the ultimate recycler. A master of finding a third or fourth use for things, he toiled tirelessly on farm repairs and was always ready to help a neighbor.
He worked hard but never missed the chance to play croquet, cards, checkers, in it to win. Sometimes he'd strut around the house, bragging and flexing his muscles like The Crusher from 1960’s All Star Wrestling. He pedaled a bike, rode a motorcycle, took in the county and state fairs, and loved roadside bargains, colorful seed caps, old time dances, and waltzing with Doraine.
Wallace and Doraine’s travels included local spots, as well as Germany, California, Alaska, Florida, and Colorado, while seeing sights and visiting relatives. Yet his biggest joy was his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing meals, playing games, and teaching them new skills.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doraine; daughter, LaVonne (Christopher) Moore of Belle Plaine; son, Kenneth (Lara Roberts) Carlson of Viroqua, WI; grandchildren, Tara (Ryan) Davenport, Ezra (Jenny) Moore, Joshua (Nina) Moore, Caroline Carlson, and Noah Carlson; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ruby, Chet, Maya, Vincent, and Elise; sister, Mildred Weckwerth of Arlington; and many nieces and nephews.
Wallace is preceded in death by his parents; siblings and their spouses, Agnes (Vernon) Wolter, Reuben (Mary Alice) Carlson, and Clifford (Monica) Carlson; and brother-in-law, Robert Weckwerth.
