Wilbur was born on July 29, 1932 in West Bend, Iowa to Rudolph, Sr. and Frances (Fehring) Dorweiler. He farmed during the earlier years of his life and in 1964 moved to Arlington where he was employed at Farm Hand in Green Isle as a machinist until the closing of that business.
