Wilbur was born on July 29, 1932 in West Bend, Iowa to Rudolph, Sr. and Frances (Fehring) Dorweiler. He farmed during the earlier years of his life and in 1964 moved to Arlington where he was employed at Farm Hand in Green Isle as a machinist until the closing of that business. He finished his working career as a custodian at Sibley East Schools.

Wilbur served his country during the Korean Era in the US Air Force from 1952-1956, stationed in Guam, France and Idaho. Wilbur remained in his home in Arlington and enjoyed being an avid fisherman. He was an advanced woodworking craftsman, making different pieces of furniture and gadgets for his relatives and friends. He enjoyed rose gardening and took good care of his flower gardens. As health declined and he needed additional help, he took up residency at Bayside Manor Assisted Living in Gaylord in September 2022.

Wilbur was a Fourth Degree member and a former Grand Knight of the local St. Arthur's Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Arlington Golden Age Club. Wilbur was always ready for a game of cards!
