Willard J. Bardon, age 91 of Le Sueur, died on Friday, May 22, 2020 at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, MN. Due to the restrictions by the CDC and the Minnesota Dept. of Health, services will be private.
Willard was born on November 22, 1928 to Walter and Phoebe (Schlegel) Bardon near Rush River, MN. He grew up in Le Sueur and graduated in 1949. He played football in high school and was dubbed “Ironman Bardon”. As a youngster, he worked at the Le Sueur Theatre and after high school worked with his brothers, Adolph and Howard, at Bardon Mobil Service in Le Sueur. He entered the United States Army in 1951 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After he returned home, he married Joan Sullivan on August 29, 1953 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Le Sueur. He continued working at various service stations and driving for AAA in Le Sueur for a short time before working maintenance and custodial with Allen Mollenhauer at Le Sueur High School. Willard enjoyed ice cream, playing cards, traveling with his family and supporting the Giants football team. He and Joan spent over 20 years wintering in Goodyear, AZ and rarely missed a Friday afternoon at the Golden Corral.
He is survived by his wife Joan, Children; Brad (Julie) Bardon, Bruce (Janelle) Bardon, Lori (Al) Steffens, Lisa (Al) Bardon Wivell, Lynn Bardon and Leslie Bardon; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Ruth Kahlow, Rose Miller, Marvin, Eldred, Howard, Vernon, Ivan and Adolph. The family prefers memorials go to the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home, 611 W. Main St, Belle Plaine, MN.
